The Collection of San Francisco Graft Prosecution Records contains copies of legal records and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, including transcripts of the trials of Abe Ruef, Eugene E. Schmitz, Louis Glass, Michael W. Coffey, Patrick Calhoun, et al., and contempt proceedings against William J. Burns. Also includes materials relating to Francis J. Heney and Hiram W. Johnson. The records were assembled for the president of United Railroads, Patrick Calhoun, and his chief counsel, Tirey L. Ford, chiefly by their attorney Albert A. Moore with his son Stanley Moore. Copies of the Eugene Schmitz trial papers (volumes 2-4) were formally in the possession of F.C. Drew.

Title: Schmitz family papers, 1867-1950.

Papers, ledgers, deeds, financial records, membership records and newsletters from the Schmitz family of Chicago, primarily papers of Nicholas Schmitz, Joseph Schmitz, and Eugene Schmitz. Contains records from the German Mutual Fire Insurance Company of North Chicago, which Joseph N. Schmitz served as secretary, including 1867 fire loss statistics, 1896-1906 list of insured members, and 1943-1950 annual statements. Also included are newsletters and other records of the Pistaqua Heights Country Club (1928-1931), of which Eugene J. Schmitz was a member. In addition, includes records from Chicago Title and Trust Company and other papers relating to the real estate and loan business of Nicholas J. Schmitz.

Title: Burnette G. Haskell letter : 6 Tiffany, San Francisco, California, to Hon. E. E. Schmitz, 1906 April 10.

This rough draft of a letter (apparently sent) is Haskell's appeal to San Francisco Mayor Schmitz to be appointed to the Election Commission to fill its Socialist Party seat. Haskell outlines his qualifications, voting record, associations and personal references, national and international, and lists his political and trade union activities. He includes the text of a letter from Abe Ruef, thanking Haskell for his support of Schmitz's 1905 campaign. He gives particulars of his birth and family, disavows typical vices, and acknowledges his enemies and alliances.

Remarks delivered before the Irish Literary & Historical Society in San Francisco, May 28, 1976, as one of a series of lectures of the American Issues Forum. Riordan extols Garret William McEnerney (1865-1942) as the ideal self-made man whose life is the "story of the American dream ... that social mobility remains a reality." McEnerney became a giant in his field of law, noted for protecting and maintaining property rights of his wealthy clients. In 1902 he became Counsel for the United States, presenting before the Permanent Court of Arbitration claims against Mexico growing out of the Pious Fund of California. This case was heard by the Hague Tribunal which made an award of liability by Mexico to the United States. McEnerney was also advisor to San Francisco Mayor Eugene Schmitz on matters dealing with the fire and earthquake of 1906. A legislative act followed, the McEnerney Act, which helped reestablish title to real property destroyed during the earthquake. Described in detail are McEnerney's achievements and contributions to the University of California as Regent from 1901-1942. Lastly, Riordan gives a comparison between McEnerney and Peter Christopher Yorke, both Irish Catholics, and their contributions to American society.

Proclamation issued by the Committee on history appointed by San Francisco Mayor Eugene E. Schmitz asking persons who were present during the 1906 earthquake and fire to submit statements detailing their experiences. The broadside includes a suggested list of questions to be addressed. Mayor Schmitz appointed this committee upon the suggestion of U.S. Circuit Judge William W. Morrow for publication by the War Department.
