Bargain and sale by the Right Honorable Robert, earl of Leicester, viscount Leisle, lord Sidney of Pensehurst, to Sir Edward Leeche, knight, master in chancery, and Ralph Whitfield of Tenterden (Kent), esquire, for 20s. and in part performance of the covenants contained in certain indentures dated 29 December last between the said earl of Leicester of the first part, the Right Honorable Algernon, lord Percie, son and heir apparent of Henry, earl of Northumberland, knight of the Garter, and Henry Taylor of London, gentleman, of the second part, and the said Sir Edward Leech and Ralph Whitfield of the third part, of the manor or barony of Pensehurst, the manors or lordships of Cepham, Enffeildes (alias Enffeild) Howden, Westleigh, and Hepsbrooke, etc., in the county of Kent; the advowsons of the rectories of Penshurst and Cowden; the rectory appropriate of Leigh near Tunbridge, Speldhurst, Biddborrowe, and Chiddingstone in the county of Kent: except the messuage called Wellplace heretofore leased by Robert, earl of Leicester, knight of the Garter, deceased, father of the said earl, to Thomas James, gentleman, deceased, containing 140 acres in Penshurst and Leigh near Tunbridge; also excepting several parcels of land [named] containing in all 481 acres in Penshurst and Heigh near Tunbrdge; and the park called Lee alias Leigh Park alias the North Park of Leigh in the parish of Leigh next Tunbridge. Endorsed with a note of enrollment on the Close Roll, 29 January [5 Charles I].
