(Harry Ardell) Allard (1880-1963) was a native of Massachusetts, graduate of the University of North Carolina, 1905, naturalist, specialist in the United States Department of Agriculture, 1906-1946, and author of several hundred articles on biological subjects. The collection includes Allard's correspondence with other scientists, government departments, researchers, and his son, Howard F. Allard; an autobiography; extensive diary entries, 1899-1948; reading and field notes; illustrations and graphs; photographs; a bibliography of published works; and writings of Allard on natural history, plant behavior, photoperiodism, the tobacco mosaic virus, and various other subjects.
