The Nichols Papers include research papers and publications describing research work on the ultracentrifuge, colloid, and polymer chemistry projects. Memoranda and correspondence describe Nichols' contributions to the Fundamental Research program, particularly in the area of paints and pigments, neoprene, nylon, cellophane, and solvents. There is correspondence with Crawford Greenewalt, Elmer Bolton (head of the Chemical Department), and Elmer O. Kraemer (a University of Wisconsin Professor and consultant to Du Pont's Fundamental Research Program). Also included are Experimental Station quarterly reports (1930-1936), research memoranda describing work on polymer electrolytes (1946-1956), and reports on the colloid aspects of nylon (1941-1945).

The Herman Elbert Schroeder papers are a mixed collection of documents and memorabilia covering his family and professional life. Personal items cover the Schroeder family history, biographical data, childhood and education, retirement letters, funeral plans, and notes on the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn where Schroeder grew up. Schroeder's professional life is covered by copies of some research papers, articles and patents, mostly on elastomers and particularly the history and chronology of neoprene. There are also biographical sketches of other DuPont scientists and a photo of the Gossamer Albatross, a muscle-powered airplane sponsored by DuPont. Materials relating to awards and honors include a copy of Schroeder's remarks at a Nobel Prize banquet for Ernst Ruska, materials relating to the 1987 Nobel Prize awarded to fellow DuPont chemist Charles J. Pedersen, correspondence regarding Schroeder's own numerous awards and honors, and his actual Lavoisier Medal.

While the Crawford Greenewalt Papers span the period 1928-1962, most of the material dates from the years between 1942 and 1968 and is primarily concerned with Greenewalt's 14-year presidency. Administrative files document the work of the president and his staff and, for the most part, were generated in anticipation of annual meetings and major policy initiatives. These records document major structural changes and strategic issues. Departmental files document the work of the major operating departments. This series includes annual and quarterly reports, financial statements, and related correspondence. The subject files document a wide variety of areas in which Greenewalt was interested but primarily relate to his work in atomic energy as they describe his involvement with both the Hanford and Savannah River projects. Included are letters from Arthur Compton, General Leslie Groves, and David Lilienthal describing the relationship between nuclear technology and public policy that evolved during the post-war years.
