Simmons, Howard E.

Howard E. Simmons was born in Norfolk, Va., on June 17, 1929. He received a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from MIT in 1954 and joined E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company as a research chemist the same year. He was a research supervisor in the Central Research Dept. from 1959 to 1970, associate director of research from 1970 to 1974, and research director from 1974 to 1979. He was named director of the Central Research and Development Dept. in 1979 and vice president in 1990. He retired from Du Pont in 1991 and died at his home in Greenville, Del., on April 26, 1997.
