The papers include correspondence, book preparatory materials, printed ephemera, various samples used in book design and bookmaking, photographs, prints, paintings, and personal memorabilia, covering the period 1870-1981, with the bulk of the material from 1900-1955. Correspondents include Henry Watson Kent, Carl H. Pforzheimer, Emery Walker, Frederic Warde, and many others. The book preparatory materials are drafts, proof pages, unbound sheets, and illustrations for Rogers's books. Printing samples include bookplates and printers' marks designed by Rogers for himself and others, as well as other ephemera designed or collected by Rogers. Writings and speeches includes numerous drafts in Rogers's hand as well as typescripts of writings by Henry Watson Kent. Art includes Rogers's own watercolors, drawings, and prints; also numerous drawings and paintings by his daughter Elizabeth Rogers Burroughs. Of the many other artists, Rudolph Ruzicka, Norman Kent, and Walter Tittle are well represented. Photographic portraits of Rogers and his contemporaries, such as T.E. Lawrence, are also included. Original type, a statue of Manutius, and other realia are included in the Restricted section.
