Correspondence (1850; 1875-1904) is between Longstreet and military men and others and concerns supplies during the Mexican War; General William N. Pendleton and others' criticisms of Longstreet's military tactics at Gettysburg and elsewhere; Gainesville, Georgia property; monetary disputes; personal and business matters; and books written by Longstreet and by his wife, Helen Dortch Longstreet. Pictures are of the Longstreet grave marker in Gainesville, Georgia, and a formal portrait is of General and Mrs. Longstreet (1901).

The main portion of the collection is made up of letters, documents, notes, manuscript and typescript articles and speeches, and scrapbooks and notebooks which are contained in 270 envelopes, folders, manuscript boxes, and bundles. Another 153 bundles, boxes, folders, and envelopes are devoted chiefly to clippings, tear sheets, pamphlets, and books and other printed matter. Proofs of the printing plates for one of Mr. Bancroft's works on Carl Schurz are preserved in eleven envelopes. Pictorial material includes two envelopes of photographs, one envelope of photostats, thirty-four photographs, and eighty-five framed photographs, many with manuscript letters by or relating to the subject of the photograph. The collection is rich in the papers and personal correspondence of Frederic Bancroft and includes notes and various other source materials for his books dealing largely with blacks, the South, the Civil War, Seward, Calhoun, and the life and work of Carl Schurz. Also, a wealth of material by and about Edgar Bancroft (1857-1925), Frederic's brother and U.S. ambassador to Japan.

Autographs, correspondence, portraits, and envelopes. Most of the materials were donated by Fred Rosenstock to Brigham Young University, but some were acquired from different sources. Many of the items were originally gathered by Barton Orville Aylesworth, a biographer and an autograph collector in Fort Collins, Colorado. Contains autographs, correspondence, portraits, and envelopes. Most of the items were originally gathered by Barton Orville Aylesworth, a biographer and an autograph collector in Fort Collings Colorado. The materials are largely letters and autographs produced by prominent American and British authors, editors, politicians, and other important artistic and historical figures in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The items relating to the individual creators are being cataloged separately and will be available on the Brigham Young University cataloging data base. BYU special collections created this artificial collection placing the material in alphabetical order.
