Papers of William Judd, a resident of Farmington, Connecticut. Includes receipts, correspondence, and papers related to his service as a Justice of the Peace. Also within the collection are the papers of his son, William S. Judd of New Haven. The younger Judd was administrator of his father's estate. One interesting piece is a copy of Ruth Wadsworth Whittlesey's divorce statement from the Connecticut General Assembly.

Judd, William Samuel, 1766-1835. William S. Judd papers, 1774-1857.

Title: William S. Judd papers, 1774-1857.

William S. Judd of Farmington, Connecticut, bought and sold land in that town. In addition to the deeds in this collection are documents that he may have gathered in his position of Justice of the Peace. These include writs, petitions to the Executive Council, deeds that do not include his name (but for land which he may have purchased later), a document related to his father's estate, and a statement regarding the type of iron produced, signed by Samuel Forbes of Canaan, Connecticut. William married Esther Stanley. Their sons William H. and Phillip S. wrote dutifully to their parents from South Carolina, where they had relocated temporarily. William and Esther's daughter Maria married John H. Cook, and one of her letters is in the collection.

Correspondence, deeds, accounts, bills and receipts of a Farmington, Connecticut justice of the peace and lawyer. The bulk of the materials consist of summonses, complaints, depositions, writs and other documents related to William Judd's work as a justice of peace and to his son William Samuel Judd's work as constable. William S. Judd was also a merchant and his accounts and correspondence represent that aspect of his life. Of interest are letters and documents relating to buying and selling land in Georgia, and the transactions of the New England Mississippi Land Company.
