Eisenhower's laying of the cornerstone for a capital extension, a 1967 child's poem on the U.S. flag and a World War II letter from the South Pacific. Bible records, 1789-1934, of the Gary family are also included. The donor has provided notes and comments on most of the items.

There is also a short note, 17 December 1848, from Thomas Sully to Henry James Brown on the color blue. Other correspondents include Susan Ann Hobson Brown, Robert Ruxton, William S. Brown, Ernest Franck, and the firms of Wilson & Brown, Chandler, Howard & Co., and Dibrell & Jones. Also include Henry James Brown's journal, ca. 1844-1848, describing events of a journey from Virginia to Missouri, and costs incurred, and including several sketches of trees; miscellaneous Brown and Worsham family correspondence, 1843-1884, regarding family matters, the economic distress of William S. Brown during the Civil War, travel in Virginia, and family deeds; and miscellaneous bills, receipts, and newspaper clippings. Also include the master's thesis, 1969, of Charles E. Worsham, Hunter College, entitled Henry James Brown, American artist: his life and works.

Correspondents include Archibald Austin ([1772-1827] concerning abolitionists), William Sheridan Cabell ([1793-1862] concerning internal improvements), James Caskie ([1792- 1866] concerning the Bank of Virginia), Cary Charles Cocke (1814-1888) and John Hartwell Cocke ([1780-1866] concerning the construction of a dam by the James River and Kanawha Company near New Canton, Buckingham County), Walter F. Smith (concerning Hampden-Sydney College), and others (concerning Asbury Crenshaw (d. 1851) and Virginia Mills, Buckingham County). Accounts concern fees paid to Fontaine for legal services and fees paid by him for medical services, as well as fees paid to the Female Collegiate Institute, Buckingham County.
