Diary of Ariel Ivers Cummings (1823-1863), kept at Roxbury, Mass., 1 Jan.-30 Apr. 1853. Cummings was a doctor in Roxbury, author, and later surgeon of the 42nd Regiment, Mass. Infantry. He died as a prisoner of war at Camp Groce, Texas. The diary describes his daily activities, including his medical practice and meetings of the Common Council, the School Committee, and the Masons; births and deaths in the town; expenses and payments received; church attendance; and the weather.
