The record consists of a typed transcript of a series of oral history interviews of Mr. Rhoads held at the Hagley Museum and Library between January 31 and April 14, 1969. The interviewers were Dr. Norman B. Wilkinson, Lucius F. Ellsworth and Faith K. Pizor or the Hagley staff. The interviews follow a question and answer format, and seem to follow a missing list of questions submitted in advance. The person transcribing the tapes made many mistakes in the spelling of proper nouns.

The Eugene Swarzwald Collection consists of 9,674 black and white photographs, negatives, a photograph album, magazine mock-ups, letters, and ephemera acquired between 1925 and 1968 by Eugene Swarzwald and the Swarzwald family for considered use in the magazine . Images depict California and the West with some coverage of the rest of the United States and international destinations. The collection contains photographs depicting general city views of communities in California, scenic views of wilderness areas, images of parks, schools and universities, museums, and points of historic interest (including California mining towns and missions). The collection is strong in subjects related to leisure and social and recreational activities, with particular emphasis on hotels, golf courses and country clubs, amusement parks, zoos, and beaches. Many of the photographs are by the Keystone Photo Service, a company founded by Eugene Swarzwald in Los Angeles in 1919. Collection contains 19 volumes compiled by Wayland Towner documenting his life history from his years as a student at the University of Maine until his retirement in 1961 from a long career in public relations and fund raising. Of particular interest are Towner's letters to his parents while he was serving in Scotland and France during World War I.

These files contain typewritten reports of sub-units to the partent organization; periodicals and other publications issued in Chinese by the three regional headquarters (the early ones are probably quite rare); publications in English by these headquarters and by American committees formed to aid in the movement; mounted photographs showing the work of the cooperatives and their leaders; albums of newspaper clippings on the movement, emanating from the U.S. and abroad; maps showing locations of cooperatives; pencil sketches and watercolors of cooperatives at work; and other material concerning this important organization which was largly responsible for China's ability to feed and clothe, and otherwise care for her people as well as to carry on a major war. 1985 ADDITION: Correspondence, memos, and printed materials of Hugh Deane, including files on the revival of the CIC in the 1980s.
