English poet.
Campbell was an English poet and translator. Monro was an English poet, editor and bookseller.
Roy Campbell was an acclaimed and productive poet and author. Born in South Africa to parents of Scottish descent, he lived most of his adult life in Europe. His life, not unlike his poetry, was vivid, controversial, often exaggerated, and designed to provoke a reaction. His wife, Mary Garman, was an art student who travelled in the same literary circles. Their long, sometimes tempestuous relationship fueled Campbell's career, and he is regarded as South Africa's most accomplished poet.

Coppard, A. E. (Alfred Edgar), 1878-1957. A.E. Coppard papers, 1932-1952.
Title:
A.E. Coppard papers, 1932-1952.
Consists primarily of autograph letters from Coppard to the novelist Don Suddaby on a wide variety of personal and professional matters. Coppard makes reference to or discusses a large number of the important writers of the day, including D.H. Lawrence, George Moore, H.G. Wells, Roy Campbell, T.S. Eliot, E.F. Benson, and P.G. Wodehouse. Political subjects are also somewhat discussed, with references to many political figures, among them Neville Chamberlain, Winston Churchill, and Adolf Hitler. Coppard also comments at length on Suddaby's novels. Many of the letters are signed with Coppard's nickname, "Flynn." There is also a small number of letters (autograph and typescript) concerning a dinner to be held for Coppard on his 75th birthday. Writers of these letters include Jonathan Cape, Leonard Woolf's secretary, Robert Gibbings, Christopher Sandford, and T.S. Eliot's secretary. All of these letters are addressed to David Posner of Wadham College Oxford, who appears to have organized the event. The collection also includes an 11 page autograph manuscript by Coppard of the short story "Chinfeathers". The manuscript is on lined paper and heavily corrected in Coppard's hand. The first page of the manuscript is dated November 3, 1939.

Title:
Tambimuttu Archive 1936-1989
The Tambimuttu Archive at the Charles Deering McCormick Library of Special Collections is particularly strong in covering Tambimuttu’s later years. There is much regarding the Lyrebird Press, Poetry London/Apple Magazine, and the Indian Arts Council. There is also extensive documentation of the preparation for the festschrift for Tambimuttu (Tambimuttu: Bridge Between Two Worlds, London: Peter Owen, 1989) edited by his colleague Jane Williams after his death. Types of materials held include correspondence, manuscript submissions, proofs and galleys, a large number of photographs, and Tambimuttu’s personal library of books and journals (mostly cataloged separately under Tambi and searchable in the Northwestern University Library online catalog). Among the correspondents represented are Lawrence Durrell, David Gascoyne, Conrad Aiken, Francis Scarfe, Nicholas Moore, Iris Murdoch, Kathleen Raine, Feliks Topolski, and George Barker.

Manning, Hugo. Papers, 1942-1977.
Title:
Papers, 1942-1977.
Comprise correspondence, diaries, notebooks containing untitled poems, a book of sketches, and manuscripts of Manning's major poetical works. The secret sea is represented by several versions, including a version set to music by Denis ApIvor entitled Chorales. Twenty-eight diaries record daily events from 1957-77, and include poetry and drawings. Much of the correspondence simply thanks Manning for sending copies of his poetry, but letters from Henry Miller encourage him to write prose and say "those things which seem incommunicable," while letters from Mario Praz discuss the influence of Borges and T.S. Eliot on Manning's poetry.
