Financial records (1897-1936), visitor register (1898-1933), and building drawings (1916-1951). The financial records include journal and ledger (1897-1901), expense ledger (1905-1908), and monthly statements of expenditures, operating statements, and reconciliations of vouchers payable and cash disbursements (1931-1936). The drawings, mostly done by C. H. Johnston, detail various areas of the hospital including the out patient department, kitchen, laundry, boiler, and nurses home. The hospital was established in 1873 as the City and County Hospital, was renamed Anker Hospital in 1923, and St. Paul-Ramsey Hospital in 1965.

Hall, Sanatorium Superintendent from 1918 through 1928, died July 18, 1928. The correspondence documents the committee's efforts to raise money to commission a marble bust of the doctor for display in the children's building, then under construction and to be named after Hall. Includes letters between Committee Chair S. O. West and the sculptor, Charles S. Wells, Minneapolis; Clarence H. Johnston, architect of the building; and former patients and colleagues sending contributions. There is a copy of the committee's form letter sent to former patients explaining the project and requesting both contributions and information about their health, and several letters from Hall's widow, Anna C. Hall. The bust, bronze instead of marble, was completed in January 1930.

Steward's files, 1922-1961.

Title: Steward's files, 1922-1961.

Correspondence and related materials kept by the steward, documenting all aspects of the daily operation of the sanatorium, including administration, housekeeping, laundry, greenhouse, dietary, farm operation and produce sales, maintenance and repairs, grounds, medical and occupational therapy, personnel and salaries/wages, store, equipment, engineering, budget, school, and library. Specific topics covered include movie bookings, maintenance of the registered Holstein-Friesian cattle herd, Indians, radio, reformatory camp, Indian out-patient clinic, building construction, and World War II rationing. The correspondents include architect Clarence H. Johnston and various representatives of the State Library, State Board of Control, departments of public institutions, public welfare, and administration, and division of social welfare. Also included are a responsibility organization chart for the steward's office (1928) and a chart of the population of various state institutions, including the sanatorium, for 1860, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, 1935, and 1940.

The materials document many of St. Paul's bridges, with particularly large runs for the Fort Snelling, Lafayette, Minnehaha Street, Sixth Street, and Wabasha Street bridges. There are also two maps detailing all the city's bridges in January 2002.
