An eclectic anthology of spells and invocations with charts, magic circles, and descriptions and drawings of spirits, angels, and demons. Draws on the Solomonic tradition, with traces of the Lemegeton (including the Goetia), references to "Friar Bacon" (Roger Bacon), and set within a Christian framework. Multiple spells relate to deterring or catching thieves and curing or preventing sicknesses. Includes translations of Psalms 43, 47, 51, 54, 67, 121, 138, and 150 (p. 25-26). A poem, "Fairy lore," by E.H.W. Meyerstein, dated September 8, 1929, corrected May 20, 1935, appears in V.b.26 (1) on verso of leaf after p. 205. An additional leaf of 20th century notes appears loose in V.b.26 (2) after p. 235.

These volumes are Hockley's manuscript records of his crystal and mirror gazing experiments, v. 4-5, 7-15. He was unable to see anything in the glass himself and reported experiences using as his seer "Crowned Angel" (among others, Emma Louisa Leigh, ca. 1838-1858.) Some passages correspond to those recorded by F.G. Irwin in Hockley's lifetime, including the "Burton episode" (v. 4, leaves 124-5). Cf. The Rosicrucian seer: magical writings of Frederick Hockley, Aquarian Press, 1986, p. 28-29, ff. Vol. 5 has spirit writings bound in at end. Vols. 4, 5, and 7 are indexed by spirit contacts and by subjects. Vol. 13 has a few newspaper clippings mounted on the versos of leaves 32, 33, 49, and 50.

Last entry ("Ada") is on p. 97. Pencil port. of Crowned Angel, laid in. Probably supplementary to his manuscript volumes The crystal : a record of visions and conferences with the in-dwellers of the spirit world (LCCN 2010414646). The beginnings of an index are at end.
