Includes letters from his family while Thomas was a student at Yale College; a long letter home from his travels in Vermont, 1801; letters home while he served in the Western Reserve of Ohio as a missionary for the Missionary Society of Connecticut, 1803-1806; minutes of Society meetings at East Windsor, Connecticut, where he was minister beginning in 1809; notes for sermons as well as complete sermons; letters from his sister Sarah Battel; sermon reviews, 1810-1814; correspondence and bills and receipts from book dealers; records of his donations to the American Board of Foreign Missions and his activities in the Temperance movement; invitations to preach at various churches in Connecticut and Massachusetts; and correspondence with Chauncey A. Goodrich, Benjamin Ely, Eleazar Lord, William Stebbins, Milo L. North, and Peter Starr. Also includes 13 volumes of his diary. Materials are arranged chronologically. The collection primarily contains writings, notebooks, sermons, and correspondence of the Rev. Philemon Robbins (1709-1781) of Branford, Connecticut, his son the Rev. Ammi Ruhanah Robbins (1740-1813) of Norfolk, Connecticut, and their close family members. Correspondents include Lazarus LeBaron (1698-1773), the Rev. Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758), and Irene Robbins (1746-1800). The papers contain Philemon and Ammi's corpus of sermons, school notebooks, several astral and solar drawings and tables, Church Records from the First Congregational Church (Branford, Conn.) in 1760, and a musical score entitled "Nineteenth Century L.M.," attributed to the Rev. Thomas Robbins (1777-1856). Also included is an account of a shipwreck that Ammi's son Chandler Robbins (1738-1786) survived off the coast of Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1786, and several letters written between Ammi and his wife Elizabeth [LeBaron] Robbins (1745-1829) while he was serving in the military as a Chaplain in Col. Charles Burrall's Regiment, Schuyler's Brigade in the Canadian campaign during the Revolution.

A diary kept by Thomas Robbins, along with an unsent, unsigned letter simply addressed to Sir. Robbins was born in Norfolk, Connecticut. Per a note in the back, most of the entries were written in 1796 and 1797. Robbins became a minister and later the first librarian of the Connecticut Historical Society.

Hosmer, James Bidwell, 1781-1878. James B. Hosmer papers, 1834-1878.

Title: James B. Hosmer papers, 1834-1878.

James B. Hosmer was a Hartford, Connecticut, businessman and entrepreneur. This collection consists of diaries, letter books, account books and correspondence. The diaries date from 1846-1863 and include notations on the weather, property management including overseeing construction, estate settlements, construction of the Wadsworth Atheneum and hiring staff for the "Historical Rooms" that contained the beginning collection of the Connecticut Historical Society at the Atheneum. Letter books, 1834-1877, contain handwritten copies of business letters Hosmer sent to his associates. The earliest account book for is the Connecticut Historical Society in account with Hosmer, who was acting as treasurer, 1839-1853. The later book is a record of the annuity paid to Thomas Robbins, the Historical Society's first librarian. This volume also includes some copies of letters, 1877-1878. Also included in the collection is correspondence, 1825-1826, with William Ely, agent of the Hartford Steamship Company, Ely's account in Merchant's Bank, and Hosmer's membership certificates in the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and the American Bible Society.
