Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, of copies of several hundred petitions to the Excise Commissioners, along with the Commissioners' replies. Numerous petitions concern the alcohol trade, including an alebrewer's request for release from debt; other subjects of petitions include payments of hearth money; pensions for the Queen Dowager and Isabella (Bennet) Fitzroy, Duchess of Grafton (b. 1667); the seizure and condemnation of brandy; and the salt trade. The volume also contains a list of salaries for employees of the Excise Office and a list of "Money paid by severall Collectors of Excise to be repaid by the Treasury of his Majesty's Navy for Conveying Seamen and Imprest men from place to place."

Manuscript, on paper, in a single hand, of letters regarding Great Britain's public finances, most of which are signed by Henry Guy, Secretary to the Treasury (1631-1710), and addressed to Sir Robert Howard, Auditor of the Exchequer (1626-1698). These letters begin, "The Lords Comr. of his Majesty's Treasury desire you out of the Branches hereafter named paid and directed to bee this weeke paid into the Excheqr. to issue viz," and contain figures for customs, impositions, and loans. Specific entries include "Lord Ranelagh for the forces," "Lord Preston for the Greate Wardrobe," and "Myselfe for his Majesties Secret Service."
