The H. Brett Melendy oral history collection documents the experiences of various university administrators and faculty through oral history interviews. The interviewees include San Jose State University Presidents John Bunzel, Robert D. Clark, Gail Fullerton, and John T. Wahlquist, as well other university administrators and faculty members (e.g. Mary Rutledge Ashe, Forrest Baird, Dwight Bentel, Mary O. Bowman, Burton R. Brazil, James Brown, Hobart Burns, Admiral Edward Carmick, Loren Cockrell, Marie Carr, Alice A. Cumry, Glenn S. Dumke, William J. Dusel, Norman O. Gunderson, Glan Guttormsen, Fred Harcleroad, Barney Hyde, Albert Jacobsen, Tom Leonard, Daniel Lopez. Rose Maruyama, Benny Mcreath, Brett Melendy, Alexander McCallum, Paul Pitman, Milton Rendahl, George Sinclar, William G. Sweeny, Robert Titchenal, Violet Thomas, James W. Thorton, Lucy Vandergon, Matt Vessel, Grace Wahlquist, Gerald Wheeler, Otho Clinton Williams, Mildred Winters, Milburn Wright, Whitaker Wool). The collection consists of audio tapes and transcriptions, correspondence, typed and handwritten notes, and related files on specific departments and programs. The H. Brett Melendy oral history collection (1965-1991) is arranged into three series: Series I, Oral history audio tapes and transcriptions, 1982-1991; Series II, San José State University presidents oral histories, 1983-1991; and Series III, Correspondence and research materials, 1965-1984.
