Henry Hampton Dunn, born in Floral City, Florida, on December 14, 1916, published his first article in 1932 as a Boy Scout correspondent for the Citrus County Chronicle. Joining the staff of the Tampa Daily Times in 1936, Dunn also served as a public relations officer and war correspondent during World War II. He returned to journalism following his military service, working in radio, televison, and newspapers. In 1960, Dunn became associated with the Peninsula Motor Club, an affiliate of AAA, serving as editor of the organization's monthly magazine. He was the author of many books, articles, and syndicated columns relating to Florida history, politics, and culture.

Hampton Dunn, the former editor of The Tampa Times was born in Floral City, Florida, in 1916. He was educated at Mercer University and the University of Tampa. A well-known newsman, Dunn won the coveted Spot News Prize awarded by the American Press Association for his coverage of the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings trial.
