Title:
Letters of Samuel Griswold Goodrich [manuscript], 1822-1856.
Letters from Goodrich primarily concerning publishing. His letter to James Gates Percival, dated November 27, 1822, discusses Percival's works and advises him to avoid controversy in his writing. Letters concerning Goodrich's own writing include a discussion of "Peter Parley's Short Stories for Long Nights;" a contribution to an annual appearing under Eliza Leslie's auspices and his admiration of her works; his purchase of copies of "Pic'l England," "Penny Magazine," and "Penny Cyclopedia" for use in U.S. magazines; and his financial affairs concerning his books. Two letters mention "The Token." Correspondence also includes a letter to Richard L. Pease concerning speaking dates to Whigs in Nantucket and Edgartown, and mentioning L.H. Jenks; two letters concerning autographs; and a letter requesting assistance in locating the designer, Billings, from whom he wants to obtain drawings. Correspondents include James Gates Percival, Allen and Ticknor, Eliza Leslie, Franklin Haven, T.J. Huntington, Rufus Wilmot Griswold, Weare C. Little, Richard L. Pease, and Rev. William B. Sprague.

Title:
Letters of Samuel Griswold Goodrich, 1822-1856.
Letters from Goodrich primarily concerning publishing. His letter to James Gates Percival, dated November 27, 1822, discusses Percival's works and advises him to avoid controversy in his writing. Goodrich urges Franklin Haven to use his influence in promoting subscriptions to "Natural History" in Boston. He sends waste sheets of poems to Rufus Wilmot Griswold to give him some idea of their quality. Letters concerning Goodrich's own writing include a discussion of "Peter Parley's Short Stories for Long Nights;" a contribution to an annual appearing under Eliza Leslie's auspices and his admiration of her works; his purchase of copies of "Pic'l England," "Penny Magazine, " and "Penny Cyclopedia" for use in U.S. magazines; and his financial affairs concerning his books. William B. Sprague.
