Diary kept by Graham (Feb. 1848-Oct. 1949) recording both his business and personal activities. He writes of his work as cashier for Howland and Aspinwall, matters of interest to the firm, fellow employees, business and social activities of his employers (William and John Aspinwall, and Gardiner and Samuel Howland), his friends and relatives, prominent people he meets, news from his friends Cunningham Drake and James L. Graham who are living in Europe, arrivals and departures of ships, numbers of people buying passage to California during the Gold Rush, social activities and public entertainments in New York, and activities of his father, Nathan Burr Graham, Jr., including his stay in Washington during the inauguraton of Zachary Taylor as president.

Letter books, account books, and other papers of Samuel W. Comstock and his younger brothers, William O. Comstock and Cornelius Van Ranst Comstock, relating to trade with China, the East Indies, the Hawaiian Islands, the West Indies, South America, and Europe. Includes papers of F.T. Bush, 1855-1856, and records of firms with which the Comstocks were associated: Howland and Aspinwall, 1833-1876; Bush and Comstock, 1840-1851; and Cornelius Comstock and Company, 1850-1879. Samuel W. and William O. Comstock were agents for the New York firm of Howland and Aspinwall, and in 1848 the former became a partner. Bush and Comstock was a Boston firm which traded with California and the Far East. Cornelius Comstock and Company engaged in the California clipper ship trade and in commission merchandising.

Included are four letters written by Robinson to William H. Aspinwall; letters to Robinson from John L. and William H. Aspinwall, G.W.P. Bissell, John B. Frisbie, Howland ? Robinson's diaries, Sept. 11, 1839 ? some accounts and account books; and miscellaneous agreements, notes and receipts. They relate primarily to his mercantile ventures and work as agent for Howland & Aspinwall and Pacific Mail Steamship Co. Included also are some Hawes family papers, including Horace Hawes' journal, 1851-1853, covering his travels across the Isthmus to the east, his voyage to Acapulco and overland trip to Mexico City and his voyage to San Francisco in 1853 via the Isthmus.
