The correspondence includes letters from Jeffrey's brother Robert at Toledo, Ohio, 1836-1838; letters to Delia Granger, a student at the Emma Willard School in Troy, N.Y., and later Jeffrey's wife; letters of recommendation, 1841, from John Grieg, Francis Granger, and others; letters from Jeffrey's brother John, chiefly concerning the business of their firm, John Jeffrey and Co., which planned, built, and managed gasworks in the 1850s in many southern and midwestern cities and in Havana and Matanzas, Cuba; and letters from Clarence George Keats, who was associated with the firm of John Jeffrey and Co. Also includes correspondence, 1851-1867, from Jeffrey's brother William about his agency of the Greig, Hornby, and Colquhoun estates in New York State; letters, 1862, from John B. Paine, Jr., of Lexington, concerning local events; letters about the administration of the estates of William Jeffrey and of his aunt Mrs. Jane Charlotte Ross; letters from Oswald Tilghman regarding the sale of "Hope Farm" in Talbot County, Md.; letters, 1883-1894, from Henry D. Includes estate papers, 1681-1719, of the Marquis of Annandale (also including a map, 1835); microfilm of subscription book of the Bank of England, 1697; statistics of cotton manufacturing in Great Britain, 1771-1789, by Patrick Colquhoun of Glasgow; letters, tracts, and notices relating to the infancy of railways in England, primarily concerning the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway Company, 1796-1833; letters, 1802-1806, from Barnard and Hughes, Manchester commission merchants, to American firms in regard to the importation of Sea Island and other cottons (including also letters to firms in Great Britain); unidentified manuscript, ca. 1803, containing observations on the question of enlarging the trade of British subjects between India and Europe; correspondence, deeds, agreements, and leases of Llangennech Tin Plate Works, Carmarthen, Wales, 1858-1907; and documents and correspondence regarding loans by the Bank of Saxe Meiningen to the Egyptian government, 1862-1866 (with some material running to 1884). Title: Letters, 1793-1800.

This correspondence from Colquhoun to Walker from 1793 to 1800 concerns Walker's role as land broker for Colquhoun and a Gov. Hornby. All letters were sent from London and refer to land investments in western New York. Colquhoun gave him the power of attorney in his business transactions with a "Col. Smith" (whose lack of integrity is mentioned in many letters), Robert Morris (1734-1806), and others. He also mentions many current events and how they might have affected relations between the United States and Great Britain: e.g., Indian uprisings and repeal of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce with France. Later letters mention the publication of Colquhoun's pamphlets. These letters, many of which are marked "duplicate" or "copy" are in chronological order.
