Jan 19. Asked Broadus to "critically and throughly examine 'The old landmark reset.' State to me all the points in which you agree with the writer, and all the points in which you disagree with your reasons for the disagreement. Are not the premises in the arguments loosely stated, partly true and partly not true?" [folder 1/31]. Feb. 2. Howell was dissatisfied with Broadus's answer, 'of the 20th.' He protested: "you have, I know, already studied the subject, and can easily, in two hours, give me short notes of such an answer as are duly to be made, giving simply a reference to any authorities you may introduce" [folder 1/32].
