Materials cover such topics as Marcy's career as a member of the cabinets of presidents James K. Polk and Franklin Pierce; New York state and national Democratic politics (circa 1830-1860); and international relations including the Martin Koszta case, negotiations concerning the Black Warrior affair with Spain, the Gadsden Purchase, proper attire for American diplomats abroad, and Pierre Soulé's conduct in Spain.
