Journal kept by Melancthon Taylor Woolsey, midshipman, on board the United States Frigate Boston from New York to Gibralter where he transferred to USF Adams, then to Algeziras where he transferred to USF New York, to Malta where he transferred to USF Chesapeake. Master of USF Boston was Daniel McNeil. Illustrated in rear with pencil drawings of volcanos, watercolor signal flags.

Six volumes cover the following dates: July 14, 1805-Apr. 3, 1806 (88 p., 8 x 13 in.), Apr. 11, 1809-Sept. 21, 1812 (316 p., 10 x 16 in.), Aug. 27, 1813-July 1, 1814 (550 p., 8 x 10 in.), June 25, 1814-Mar. 17, 1815 (550 p., 7 x 10 in.), Apr. 1, 1817-Dec. 31, 1819 (500 p., 8 x 12 in.), and Jan. 1, 1820-Apr. 10, 1821 (215 p., 8 x 10 in.).

The earliest documents date from 1767-68 and the latest from 1830, but the majority pertain to the 1780's and 1790s.
