The collection consists of a typescript copy of Dunciad minimus, a lengthy, mock-heroic satire concocted in 1950 and later rewritten and finally published in 1970 as Dunciad Minor. With profuse annotations credited to contemporary commentator Arthur Phillips and the 18th century critic Ambrose Philips, written by Hope. Although nominally a satire of Pope's Dunciad, the poem pokes fun at modern literary criticism and academic pedantry in general. Also contains the text of Arthur Phillips' radio broadcast, Standard works I'd like to burn: Alexander Pope, broadcast 7 Feb. 1950.

On all but nine of the parts he has noted the theater at which the production opened (23 Drury Lane, 1 Covent Garden, 1 Haymarket); with the date of first performance (23 Nov. 1783 to 29 May 1799) on 22 he has noted the date of first performance (Nov. 23, 1783, to May 29, 1799); on five he has noted the date of a second production at Covent Garden (Nov. 17, 1803, to Oct. 25, 1805). Ten are Shakespeare plays: T.a.11 Macbeth (D.L. Mar. 31, 1785), T.a.13 Richard III (no theater or date), T.a.17 King Lear (D.L. Jan. 21, 1788), T.a. 23 Coriolanus (no theater or date), T.a.25 King John (D.L. Dec. 10, 1783), T.a.30 Merchant of Venice (D.L. Jan. 22, 1784), T.a.34 Much ado about nothing (D.L. Apr. 30, 1788), T.a.35 Measure for measure (D.L., no date), T.a.38 Henry V (no theater or date), T.a.39 As you like it (D.L. Feb. 14, 1799; C.G. Oct. 25, 1805). Two others are Elizabethan plays: Massinger's Roman Actor (T.a.29) and Fletcher's Rule a wife (T.a.20). Manuscript commonplace book of Thomas Trigg of Royston, dating from approximately 1785. This volume contains poetry and some prose from various writers including Shenstone, Pope, Catullus, Shakespeare, Ambrose Philips, Virgil, Dryden and Grainger's Life of Tibullus, among many others. Trigg notes his sources for many of these extracts, which include The Spectator, and various published miscellanies. Several entries are written in a hand different from, but contemporary to, Trigg's.

Such poems include On the death of a beloved father; Monody on the death of a lady who died in childbed; Elegy written on the plain of Fontenoy; Elegy on Mary Blandy; and On the death of Deborah Carleton. The collection, moreover, contains a number of poems about non-European cultures, including Peru by Helen Maria Williams; The wrongs of Africa by William Roscoe; Oriental Eclogues by William Collins; and Stanzas to fancy written in the West Indies. Other poets represented in the collection include Ambrose Philips, William Cowper, and William Whitehead. The volume also contains a number of humorous verses by John Byron.
