The Office of University Communications at the University of Texas at San Antonio was formed following the dissolution of the News and Information Office circa 1988. The News and Information Office, and later the Office of University Communications, was responsible for all official UTSA photography, with contract photographer Gil Barrera also taking photographs for the University from 1972-1978. University photographers from 1973-2008 were John R. Poindexter, Mark McClendon, and Patrick R. Dunn. As of February 2008, University Communications is overseen by the Office of the Vice President for University Advancement and comprises three departments: University Publications, Public Affairs, and Web and Multimedia Services. This collection spans the years 1972 through 2001 and includes photographs, negatives, contact prints, and slides depicting the University of Texas at San Antonio. Included in the collection are photographs of people (students, faculty, and staff), buildings and campus grounds, colleges, events, and objects.
