The Office of University Communications at the University of Texas at San Antonio was formed following the dissolution of the News & Information Office circa 1988. The News & Information Office, and later the Office of University Communications, was responsible for all official UTSA news reporting and photography. As of October 2008, University Communications is overseen by the Office of the Vice President for University Advancement and comprises three departments: University Publications, Public Affairs, and Web & Multimedia Services.

The Office of University Communications at the University of Texas at San Antonio was formed following the dissolution of the News and Information Office circa 1988. The News and Information Office was responsible for all official UTSA photography, with contract photographer Gil Barrera also taking photographs for the University from 1972-1978. Additionally, contract photographer Tommy Hultgren took photographs of campus life (students, student activities, and other subjects) for the University in 1996. As of February 2008, University Communications is overseen by the Office of the Vice President for University Advancement and comprises three departments: University Publications (responsible for publishing the UTSA magazine Sombrilla ), Public Affairs (responsible for publishing UTSA Today, http://www.utsa.edu/today/), and Web and Multimedia Services.
