This is a collection primarily of dry mats concerning Clarence D. Martin's campaign for Governor of Washington in 1932. A dry mat is a way to make a dry mold of an impression from relief plates and forms for printing photographs and type. The collection contains an 8 x 6 inch metal plate for 3 photographs of Clarence D. Martin; 16 dry mats of photographs that were used for the campaign; 4 newspaper clippings of some of the dry mats and a 6 x 6 inch metal radiator emblem that states "Martin for Governor" with his portrait on it.

The papers include correspondence, sermons, scrapbooks, clippings, genealogical materials, and reports. Correspondence includes Matthews's an extensive exchange of letters with Woodrow Wilson between 1913 and 1921, materials documenting Matthews's use of the Burns Detective Agency in ascertaining the "moral condition" of Seattle from 1911 to 1916, and his correspondence with William Short relating to unions. Also included is Matthews's correspondence with his son, Mark Matthews, Jr., from 1924 to 1940. Matthews's writings include an almost complete collection of his sermonettes and a miscellaneous assortment of sermons, sermon notes, speeches, and other writings. The Presbyterian Hospital papers contain limited documentation of Matthews's years as president of the Presbyterian Hospital and Sanitarium in Jackson, Tennessee. Additional correspondents include Wesley Livsey Jones, James Theodore Ronald, William Gibbs McAdoo, Clarence C. Dill, J. Edgar Hoover, Clarence D. Martin, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Organizations represented in the papers include the First Presbyterian Church of Seattle; the Presbyterian Hospital of Jackson, Tennessee; and the King County Medical Society Hospital Committee.

One photo album illustrating the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam from 1933 to 1937. It includes photographs of the site before construction, the Columbia River diversion, blasting, "jackhammer men," driving steel piling, and general construction photographs. It also includes one photograph of the builder's quarters, Franklin D. Roosevelt at the dedication in 1934, and a photograph of Governor Clarence D. Martin formally placing first concrete in dam in 1935. The photographer is unknown, but the photographs are 8x10 black and white photographs taken with a large format camera.
