A birth and baptismal certificate designed by Hugo Sebald and printed by Ignatius Kohler, circa 1880. The illustrative border includes four vignettes showing scenes of birth, marriage, baptism, and death; also includes images of four angels entwined with decorative floral motifs, and a single dove top and center. The text reads: Certificate of birth & baptism to these two parents, as [William Wolfgang] and his wife [Mary] was born a [daughter] on the [24] day of [September] in the year of our Lord 18[80]. This child was born in [Washington Township Northumber'd] County, in the state of [Pa] in North America, was baptized on the [14] day of [November] 18[80] by the Rev. [J. Schmidt] and received the name of [Mary Elizabeth]. Witnesses present at the act of Baptism: [The parents].

Title: Certificate of birth & baptism for Emmeline Elizabeth Kressly, 1877-1878.

A birth and baptismal certificate lithographed by Hugo Sebald (1855) and printed by Ig. Kohler (c.1876). The illustrative border shows four realistic Victorian vignettes: marriage, birth, baptism, and death. Four angels are also placed within the border, and a bird hovers at the top. The certificate records the birth of Emmeline Elizabeth Kressly on Nov. 21, 1877, in Schuylkill County, Pa. The daughter of Thomas Kressly and Rebecah Houser Kressly, she was baptized on the 13th day of May, 1878, by the Rev. I.J. Reitz with four witnesses in attendance.
