The records consist of those Union Canal Company documents that passed to the Reading Railroad in 1890. There are minutes of the board of managers (1827-1864), minutes of annual stockholder's meetings (1821-1875), and documents relating to the appointment of lottery commissioners (1818, 1820). There are also agreements with the Schuylkill Navigation Company (1826-1856) and a stock subscription register (ca. 1845).

Printed tickets from a variety of lotteries in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Among the signatures of lottery officials and ticket holders are those of William Alexander, the Revolutionary general who claimed the title of Earl of Stirling; Jacob Broom, signer of the Federal Constitution from Delaware; Continental Congressmen Daniel Carroll and Timothy Matlack; and Pennsylvania justice Jasper Yeates.

Robert Morris papers, 1751-1802

Title: Robert Morris papers 1751-1802

Robert Morris (1734-1806) was an American financier and statesman. A Philadelphia merchant, he became the first Finance Minister of the U.S. and helped to finance the American Revolution through his business activities. He signed the Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation and was one of the framers of the U.S. Constitution. Collection consists of correspondence, financial and legal papers, and auction catalogs of collections pertaining to Morris. Correspondence relates primarily to business affairs of Morris, and also his Revolutionary War activities, his service as Finance Minister, and personal matters. Financial and legal papers include receipts, accounts, stock certificate and land records. Auction catalogs list Morris collections from which the documents in this collection might have been bought.
