Title: The crucifer of blood : programs and ephemera, 1978-1993.

Programs, handbills, reviews, and advertising material for professional and amateur productions of The crucifer of blood by Paul Giovanni. The play was initially produced at the Studio Arena Theatre in Buffalo, NY, and then ran on Broadway with the same cast and artistic staff at the Helen Hayes Theatre from Sept. 1978-April 1979. This production was directed by playwright Giovanni, and starred Paxton Whitehead as Sherlock Holmes, and also featured Glenn Close in the cast. A 1980 Los Angeles production featured Charlton Heston as Holmes, and Jeremy Brett as Watson. Other materials in the collection are from regional high school, amateur, and professional productions of the play in the U.S. and Great Britain.

Title: Dorothy Chandler Papers,

Dorothy Buffum Chandler (1901-1997) married Norman Chandler, the son of owner Harry Chandler, in 1922. She was a member of the UC Board of Regents (1954-68), helped restructure the Times-Mirror Corporation (1950s-60s), spearheaded the fundraising drive to establish the Los Angeles Music Center (1954-64), was a honorary life chair of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, and a recipient of numerous honorary degrees. The collection consists of correspondence and papers related to Dorothy Chandler's involvement with the Los Angeles Music Center, the Southern California Symphony Association, Center Theater Group of Los Angeles, and the Hollywood Bowl Association. Autobiographical work in which playwright Henry David Hwang examines the dilemma of Asian Americans in the performing arts. The play makes reference to his own earlier works M. Butterfly and Face value, and to the controversy surrounding the casting of Welsh actor Jonathan Pryce as a Eurasian character in the 1990 Broadway musical Miss Saigon. Typescript, dated Dec. 5, 2007. Lightly marked with ink. Used by The New York Public Library's Theatre on Film and Tape Archive on Dec. 13, 2007, when videotaping the stage production at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre, New York, N.Y. The production opened on Dec. 10, 2007, and was directed by Leigh Silverman.

Title: The Jack Gelber Papers 1938-2002 (Bulk 1957-1999)

The Jack Gelber Papers reflect their creator's career as a writer, director and teacher of American theatre. Much of the collection is composed of Gelber's correspondence and writing, particularly his plays. The collection also holds a smaller amount of records dedicated to a number of the theatre productions and workshops he directed which included performances of his own works. However there are few documents concerning his career as an instructor. As a whole the collection contains substantial quantities of correspondence, typescript drafts, handwritten notes, printed advertisements, and clippings along with a few journal entries, audiotapes, and videocassettes.
