Biographical History
The Association, founded ca. 1943, campaigned in the state of New York for funds to maintain and expand child care centers for children of working mothers.
The following excerpt is from a letter written by Mrs. Lutzker to Mrs. Canedy on Sept. 16, 1960:
"At the height of its activity, there were about 100 such units [i.e., Child Care Centers] throughout New York City with an enrollment of almost 2500 children and as many on waiting lists; not quite so many units throughout New York State. Local parents' associations in a great many of the centers sent delegates to the central body to participate in policy-making."
