Biographical History

In 1782 the New York Legislature granted a tract of land in central New York for bounty lands to reward the soldiers who fought in the Revolution. In 1786 the state forbid occupancy on the grants due to a conflict with Indian Claims. Instead, "The Old Military Tract" was created in north eastern New York, virtually unpopulated, to compensate for the previous grant.

From the description of Survey map of Lots No. 35-75 in Township No. 3 of the Old Military Tract, Clinton County, New York. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 122629586
