Pierce Egan was an English journalist whose rowdy, bawdy tales of London night life came to exemplify the Regency. Born in London and apprenticed to a printer, Egan wrote several popular sketches but made his reputation as a sports journalist, eventually compiling one of the key histories of boxing. He is probably best remembered for Life in London, an authentic, first-hand account of the sprawling London underworld that became the unofficial guidebook to London during the Regency. Published as an illustrated serial, the work was enormously popular and influential.

From the description of Pierce Egan letter to My dear sir, 1833 March 26. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 59716605
