Biographical History
Politician. Leader of the Labour Party, 1928-1935; Prime Minister, 1929-1932, holding the portfolios of External Affairs, Industry and Treasury during his term. After 1935, Scullin advised the government during World War II and led war time investigations into uniform taxation by an Income Tax on Current Income Committee.
Prime Minister, 1929-1932. Represented Australia at Imperial Conference, 1930.
Scullin was A.L.P. federal member for Corangamite (1910-1913) and later for Yarra (1922-1949), was federal leader of the party, 1928-1935 and Prime Minister during the Depression years of 1929-1931. During the war Scullin conducted or participated in several enquiries, including those into uniform taxation legislation, and the Dept. of Information.
