English author.
Amelia Alderson Opie was a successful English author. Her output was diverse, but she is generally considered a novelist of manners, and her best observations are on an individual's interaction with society. Through her father and later her husband, painter John Opie, she met many notable people of her day. After her husband's death she became a Quaker, and gradually abandoned her writing career in favor of producing religious tracts and working for social reform.
