Biographical History
The offices of Chief Engineer for the Eastern, Central, and Western Regions were created in 1927. The regional chief engineers reported directly to the chief engineer in Philadelphia rather than to the regional general managers. The Chief Engineer-Eastern Region assumed responsibility for the extensive terminal improvements in Philadelphia from the Chief Engineer Philadelphia Improvements in 1937. The posts of regional chief engineers were abolished in the reorganization of 1955.
