The Office was placed under the Office of the Provost and again renamed Assistant Provost for Educational and Cultural Programs in 1994, and closed in 1995 as part of a reorganization.

William W. Warner was appointed Assistant Secretary for Public Service (Acting) in 1968 and Assistant Secretary in 1969. Julian T. Euell succeeded Warner in 1972 (Acting) and Assistant Secretary, 1973-1983. Peter Seitel served 1983-1984. Ralph Rinzler succeeded him, serving 1984-1990. James C. Early was Assistant Secretary for Public Service, 1990-1992, Assistant Secretary for Education and Public Service, 1992-1994, and Assistant Provost for Educational and Cultural Programs, 1995.
