Biographical History

A major figure in the American Maritime community, Nicholas B. Dean (1933-2005), of Edgecomb, Me., was a writer, photographer, and adventurer. He was instrumental in returning the bow of the Snow Squall to South Portland from Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands in 1987. This correspondence sheds unique light on the day to day work of a late 20th century Maine historian. During the periods of this correspondence, Mr. Dean was engaged in important book projects including The Portland Marine Society, 1796-1996, A Bicentennial History (co-authored with John K. Moulton) and his master-work, Snow Squall: The Last American Clipper Ship (2001).
