Presbyterian Evangelistic Committee of Philadelphia was established in 1899 by John H. Converse, John Wanamaker and other prominent Presbyterians to hold evangelistic tent meetings; the Committee held Children's rallies and Vacation Bible Schools and founded fourteen churches and missions; name changed in 1925 to Summer Evangelistic Committee of Philadelphia Presbytery; in 1955 it started enlisting seminary students to work with inner city churches.
