He taught in schools in Karluk and Talkeetna (1952-1955), and worked as a technician in small mammal studies (1955-1956). He returned to Anchorage in 1959 and later worked as a game biologist (1963-1979). Lucier participated in the Cook Inlet Native Association and Urban Natives United dance groups (1965-1975), and was involved in recording folklore in the Seward Peninsula, Norton Sound, and Kotzebue Sound regions (1960-1978).
