Biographical History
Benjamin Wright (1770-1842) was a prominent land surveyor and engineer. During his career, he surveyed much of the lands along the upper Mohawk and Black River Valleys, which are now situated in Herkimer, Oneida, Lewis, and Jefferson Counties in New York State. Wright was also noted for his advocacy and development of canals and transportation infrastructure in New York State. He was chief engineer in the design and construction of the Erie Canal.
Benjamin Wright (1770-1842) was a land surveyor of Oneida and Oswego counties from 1792 to 1796 and active in the promotion of the New York State Canal.
