Biographical History
Colorado pioneer and lawyer. "He was born near Chillicothe, O., and was educated at Oberlin college. He came to St. Joseph, Mo., in 1852 and was admitted to the bar at Plattsburg, Neb., in 1858. He served as judge of the appellate court under what was known as the "people's government" in Denver and was a member of the Colorado territorial legislature in 1862 and 1868. In 1870 he was chief clerk of the Colorado house of legislature." (from obituary, Rocky Mtn. News, 11/20/97).
Colorado lawyer. Arrived Denver, Colorado 1858. Served as chief justice of a provisional Territorial court. Served two terms in the Territorial legislature. Practiced law in several Colorado communities including Denver, Central City, Boulder, and Loveland.
William Slaughter may have been born around 1831 in Ohio. The 1870 census shows a William M. Slaughter living in Denver; the 1880 census shows a William M. Slaughter farming in Larimer, Colorado. He served in many Colorado government positions, especially as Notary Public for various Colorado counties.
