Charles Hunter Gerhardt was a United States (U.S.) Army lieutenant for the 3rd U.S. Cavalry Regiment; captain, aide-de-camp to Major General W.M. Wright commanding the III Corps and later the 89th Infantry Division; captain and major, 14th U.S. Cavalry Regiment; major, 8th and 11 U.S. Cavalry Regiments; major, G-1, Philippine Department; lieutenant colonel and colonel, Cavarly; brigadier general, Second Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division; 56th Cavalry Brigade; major general, 91st and 29th Infantry Divisions; member, joint Brazil-United States Military Commission; G-2, 2nd Army.

Charles Hunter Gerhardt (1895-1976) was born in Lebanon, Tennessee, the son of Brigadier General Charles Gerhardt, served in the United States Army in both World War I and World War II. He was the Commanding General of the 29th U.S. Infantry Division from 1943 to 1946.
