Biographical History

Professor of economics, Lawrence Abbott, 1902-1985, was born in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. Before moving into economics and academia, he led a self-described "career-hopping life" working in advertising, fund raising, broadcasting, and magazine editing. After retiring from the faculty of the University of Connecticut in 1968, Abbott devoted his life and work to the World Federalist cause, serving variously as president and secretary of the Mansfield, Connecticut, chapter, delegate to and secretary of the New England board, delegate to and secretary of the national board, and editor of the national newsletter, The Federalist.

Lawrence Abbott, 1902-1985, was born July 9, 1902 in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. He attended Harvard, receiving an A.B., cum laude, in 1924, and then Columbia University for an A.M. in 1945 and PhD. in 1951. He is self-described as having a career-hopping life working in advertising, fundraising, broadcasting and magazine editing among other professions before moving into economics and academia. Following his retirement from the faculty of the University of Connecticut in 1968, Abbott devoted his life and work to the World Federalist cause. He served variously as president and secretary of the Mansfield chapter, delegate to and secretary of the New England board, delegate and secretary to the national board, and editor of the national newsletter, The Federalist . Abbott is the author of The Listener's Book on Harmony as well as of books on economics. He died Dec. 8, 1985.
