Biographical History
Originally composed for string quartet, 1926; transcribed for chamber orchestra 1939. First performed at a concert of the National Association of American Composers and Conductors, New York, 28 January 1940, broadcast over Station WNYC. New York Civic Orchestra of the WPA, Macklin Marrow conductor. Title later changed to Carolina, suite for chamber orchestra.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
Originally composed for piano, 1938; orchestrated 1938. First performed Rochester, N.Y., 25 October 1939, Rochester Civic Orchestra, Howard Hanson conductor.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
