Biographical History
The Association for Humanistic Psychology (AHP) was founded in 1962 by a group of noted individuals in the field of Humanistic thought. AHP was originally founded to educate researchers, practitioners, educators, students, and the public about Humanistic principles. Annual international conferences were an important part of AHP's history and early mission. In addition, global centers were constructed to host retreats, classes, and training programs to guide professionals to work in Humanistic thought and principles.
The Association for Humanistic Psychology (AHP) was founded in 1961, one year after publication of the Journal of Humanistic Psychology commenced. A membership drive was launched based on Abraham Maslow's informal mailing list, the Eupsychian Network. Founding members of the society include, among others, Charlotte Buhler, Sidney Jourard, Abraham Maslow, Rollo May, Clark Moustakas, Lewis Mumford, Carl Rogers. Annual meetings have been held since 1963. The Association promotes the development of humanistic theory, therapies and research through publications, educational materials and conferences.
