Members of the Wood family were long-time residents of Santa Fe. James A. Wood was born in the early 1840s and died in 1931. He married Ella with whom he had two children, Owen and Laura. James A. Wood held various positions, among others, he was the superintendent of the Santa Fe school district at the turn of the century and later in the Las Vegas, New Mexico, school district. Owen Wood, who inherited the family home at 511 Armijo St., Santa Fe, New Mexico, graduated from the Rose Rolytechnic Institute at Terre Haute, IN. He persued a career as draftsman with the U.S. Public Survey office and then as an officer with Mutual Building and Loan Association until his retirement in 1965. In addition, Owen Wood was a Captain in the New Mexico National Guard and in charge of the Santa Fe Armory. He participated in social activities in the Santa Fe Community, particularly with the Allison-James Presbyterian Mission School and its student. He also had two (yet not likely legally) adopted daughters, Elizabeth Jimenez and Toni Medina. He was born in 1883 and died in 1971. Laura Wood, who also lived at 511 Armijo, was the chief clerk of the Santa Fe office of the United States Attorney and retired after thirty-five years of service. Laura was married to Jack Lowe whom she divorced in 1929. She died in 1964. She was a member of Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem Yucca Shrine No. 3, and the Business and Professional Women's Club.
