Biographical History

Upper Louviers was a mansion located on the east bank of the Brandywine Creek in Brandywine Hundred, Del., opposite the powder mills of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company. It was supposedly built ca. 1802 by Peter Bauduy, one of the original partners of E. I. du Pont, and later served as the home of the families of Victor du Pont (1767-1827) and Admiral Samuel Francis Du Pont (1803-1865). It was demolished ca. 1986.
