Biographical History

Emily Dow Partridge was born on 20 February 1824 in Painsville, Grange County, Ohio, to Edward and Lydia Partridge. Her parents were converted to the LDS Church in 1830. The family gathered and experienced the hardships with the rest of the church members in Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois. Emily was married as a polygamous wife to Joseph Smith and later to Brigham Young. Her life story parallels the history of the early church until her death in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1899.

From the guide to the Emily Dow Partridge Smith Young papers, 1832-1970, (J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah)

Mormon woman in Salt Lake City, Utah, and wife to Joseph Smith, first president of the Mormon Church, and to Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church.

From the description of Diary, 1874-1899. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 122609476
